Hyundai Motor Co. unveiled the midsize crossover utility vehicle IONIQ 5, its first model embedded with its EV-only electric-global modular platform (E-GMP),
The IONIQ 5 will be launched in Europe next month, domestically in the second quarter, and other markets later this year.
According to Hyundai Motor President and CEO Chang Jae-hoon, the company will begin producing the IONIQ 5 in its Ulsan plant next month. He added that they aim to sell 70,000 units globally this year, including 26,500 units in South Korea, and 100,000 units next year.
The IONIQ 5 is priced at 50 million to 55 million won but can be purchased for around 40 million with government subsidies.
The E-GMP has a flat battery and long wheelbase that allows for a more spacious and customizable interior.
The IONIQ 5's long-range model is equipped with a 72.6 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery that can travel up to 430 kilometers on a single charge. It can be charged by 80 percent of its capacity within 18 minutes.
It is also available in the standard model with a 58 kWh battery.
The car's user-friendly functions include a gear selector located behind the steering wheel, the sliding center console, and the vehicle-to-load (V2L) function which allows the charging of electric devices such as coffee machines.
It also has advanced safety features, such as the safe exit assist and rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist systems, lane-keeping assist, and blindspot collision avoidance.
Hyundai will begin receiving pre-orders for the IONIQ 5 in South Korea from Thursday.
