“Game of Thrones” season 8 will be the series’s finale and HBO is preparing the fans by releasing images and video teasers. The hints provided revealed many things that fans should watch out for in the final season, and these include the return of Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) Ghost.

In the previous two seasons, viewers noted that the beloved direwolf was not around. In the sixth season, he was shown standing by and protecting Jon Snow’s body after dying briefly, but since then Ghost has not been seen in “Game of Thrones” again.

Now, Ghost’s return has been confirmed by “Game of Thrones” season 8’s visual effect supervisor, Joe Bauer. Speaking with The Huffington Post, he said, “Oh, you’ll see him again. He has a fair amount of screen time in season eight. He’s very present and does some pretty cool things in season eight.”

Jon Snow himself is coming back to Winterfell too. He will be reunited with his family but it seems his homecoming will be filled with tension. His return is hinted at in the trailer that was released by HBO in August.

The clip shows one scene where Jon Snow arrives home and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) gives him a warm embrace. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) are also shown for a moment and they seem to be in a serious situation.

Air Date and Episodes

Meanwhile, even though “Game of Thrones” season 8 will be the last in the series, as mentioned on HBO's website, it will only run for 6 episodes. But fans should not be disappointed because every episode will be longer.

As for the premiere date, the historical drama has no specific release date yet. Although the filming has wrapped up already, the production team still needs to assess when it will be out. Moreover, director and writer David Benioff admitted that they have not decided on it yet.

"We honestly don't know yet when the final episodes will air," he told Entertainment Weekly. “There's been a lot of back and forth about air dates and that's a long way off from being settled."
