The internet is rife with theories about what will happen in “Game of Thrones” Season 8. And since the show’s story arc liberally uses a lot of plot twists, it’s easy to understand why fans of the franchise are fond of concocting some themselves.

With all these speculations being shared on the web, it’s likely that one of them has it right. But identifying which one is correct is difficult since everything official is being kept under wraps. Still, this doesn’t stop fans from writing all these theories about “Game of Thrones” Season 8, which range from humorous to mind-blowingly possible. The fact that some fans correctly predicted major plot twists in the past makes these speculations rather enticing to believe.

Indeed, before George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy saga was adapted by HBO, hardcore fans of “A Song of Ice and Fire” already predicted the real parentage of Jon Snow (Kit Harington). And with “Game of Thrones” Season 8 set to be the final installment of the fantasy epic, more and more of these speculations are going to surface.

The most popular of these is Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) is the Night King, a twist that is touted to be revealed in “Game of Thrones” Season 8. As the theory would have it, Bran became the Night King when he used his green-seer power to stop the Children of the Forest from conducting a ritual that would turn a human into a White Walker.

In a twisted turn of fate, his attempt supposedly backfired and the Children turned him into one instead. But being only mentally present, he was able to return to the present. However, the man who was left was still transformed into a White Walker, who would eventually become the Night King. While this seems unlikely to happen in “Game of Thrones” season 8, there are a lot of hints that suggest this could be the case.

The most telling is the juxtaposition of Bran and the Night King in a scene in season 7 where the green-seer tried to uncover the source of the entity’s existence. The scene portrayed Bran in a similar position to the Night King as the Children pushed a dragon glass inside his chest. While this may be coincidence, it’s an established fact that the show’s creators are fond of using hints and foreshadowing. Fans who are aware of this fact should keep their eyes open in “Game of Thrones” Season 8 to spot more of these small details, which can be tied to this speculation.

And if they keep appearing, then this popular fan theory is likely another correct prediction, similar to the one forecasted regarding Jon Snow’s lineage. Unfortunately, “Game of Thrones” Season 8 is still a long way off as it’s slated to air in 2019. HBO has yet to announce when exactly it’s returning but if past installments are anything to go by, it will possibly drop sometime around 2019’s second quarter.
