“Final Fantasy 16” is currently only confirmed to launch on PS5 next year. However, a new video promo for Sony’s console suggests that the game could be available on other platforms six months after its release date.
Sony released a new “Play Like Never Before” trailer for PS5 on Monday, where “Final Fantasy 16” made a brief appearance. During the game’s frame in the teaser, the company added a note that read (first spotted by Wario64), “‘Final Fantasy XVI’ anticipated Summer 2023. PS5 exclusive for six months.”

It is worth noting, though, that this is not the first indication that “Final Fantasy 16” could launch on other platforms at a later time. In its latest trailer, released last September, Sony included a similar note that also confirmed it would be available on PC.
For now, fans not using PS5 will have to keep guessing what these notes mean. The more likely outcome would be for “Final Fantasy 16” to arrive on PC in late 2023 or early 2024, depending on when exactly it will be released on PS5 in the summer of next year.
The bigger question, however, is whether or not “Final Fantasy 16” will eventually launch on Xbox Series X/S after its PS5-exclusive status expires. While “Final Fantasy” games are more often affiliated with PlayStation systems, Square Enix did launch “Final Fantasy 15” on PS4 and Xbox One simultaneously in 2016.
The publisher also brought several mainline “Final Fantasy” titles to the Xbox One in 2019. But Square Enix’s latest major “Final Fantasy” project – the “Final Fantasy 7” remake – notably remains unavailable on any Xbox hardware and services despite being in the market for more than two years now.
While Square Enix has yet to announce a specific release date for “Final Fantasy 16,” developers have previously stated that its development is nearing completion. Director Hiroshi Takai recently told Famitsu (via Gematsu) that they are already polishing “some performance and rendering issues.” In the same interview, producer Naoki Yoshida said the team is hoping to release more information, including a release date “before the end of the year.”
