“Elementary” season 7 is now confirmed to be in production so fans should not worry anymore because the series is surely not canceled. No one can really blame the fans for thinking that the sixth season was the end because the finale was actually created to be the last episode of the modern-day Sherlock Holmes story.
CBS ordered new episodes for “Elementary” season 7 as early as July. At that time, season 6 was still airing so it can be said that the Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu-led drama has been doing well so far.
The writers of “Elementary” were the one who disclosed the start of filming the past summer. They shared this detail via social media and fans were extremely excited.
As for “Elementary” season 7’s plot, showrunner Rob Doherty previously shared that when the crime-solving drama returns, a year had passed already since the ending in the sixth installment.
Speaking to TV Line, Doherty said, “When we come back in the seventh season, a year will have passed. So all of our characters will have had time to really reflect on what happened at the end of the sixth season.”
“Elementary” season 7 will also have a different setting as the series will now be featuring London as its new location. According to the production team, they moved to the U.K. since it is Sherlock Holmes’ home ground in the first place. Likewise, we can say that the show is returning to its roots because it was where the detective was originally based.
Despite the changes, “Elementary” season 7 will still feature Jonny Lee Miller (Sherlock Holmes) and Lucy Liu (Dr. Joan Watson) as the leads. They will be supported by Aidan Quinn (Tommy Gregson), Jon Michael Hill (Marcus Bell), Liza J. Bennett (Hannah Gregson), De'Adre Aziza (Krista), Nelsan Ellis (Shinwell Johnson) and Jacob Fishel as Graham Jenkins.
“Elementary” seasons 7 has no official premiere date yet but media sources suggested that it can arrive some time in April next year. This month is the usual release date for the previous seasons thus it was assumed that CBS would follow the same pattern.
