A collision between two trains in Egypt's Giza province killed at least four people and wounded 88 on Sunday, disrupting rail service south of Cairo, the country's Health Ministry said.
The crash happened in al-Ayyat district, about 32 miles south of Cairo. A train driver was among the dead, and the Health Ministry said those wounded were transported to hospitals in the area.
Egypt's Transportation Ministry said a train bound for Fayoum struck the rear of a service headed for Aswan. It said one train derailed but did not identify which train left the tracks.
President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi said he directed state agencies to treat the wounded, establish how the crash happened and hold anyone found negligent accountable.
The Egyptian Railway Authority said it sent response teams and cranes to clear the wreckage. It said work was underway to return trains to their usual timetable as soon as possible.
