"Dragon Ball Super: Broly" just came out with a movie trailer during Comic-Con 2018. The trailer shows a Goku and Vegeta tag team being overwhelmed by Broly, who is teased to be a super Saiyan stronger than anyone else has known. Even Frieza is easily defeated by Broly in the movie's trailer.
"Dragon Ball Super: Broly" was announced last year during the Jump Fiesta with the billing theme “The Strongest Warrior Race in the Universe, the Saiyans.” The show was targeted to release in December 2018 and the only teaser back then was that the show will look at the origins of the Saiyan race.
The official title of the film was released last July 10, confirming that the new movie would be titled “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” and would be the third film to feature Broly, a powerful Saiyan who had only appeared in two other films, namely “Dragon Ball Z: Broly – Legend of the Super Saiyan” and “Dragon Ball Z: Broly – Second Coming.”
Yonkou Productions has confirmed the movie's focus on the history and lore of the Saiyan race.
The theme of the work is supposed to be about
— YonkouProductions (@YonkouProd) December 16, 2017
'The strongest combat race in the universe: Saiyans'
The movie will depict the origin of Goku and co.'s strength.
In all prior incarnations, Broly has appeared as a powerful yet antagonistic Saiyan. The poster announcement that came with the confirmation of the film's final title also confirms that Broly will be the antagonist of the upcoming “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” movie. The poster reads, “The greatest enemy, Saiyan” which updates Broly's canonical appearance once again as the movie's villain.
Fans can only speculate for now how Broly will unravel the mysteries of the Saiyan race. If Broly really is as explosive as the “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” trailer makes him out to be, will the Saiyans that we know be able to match his power and defeat him? Or is there something that makes Broly special that not even the other Saiyans can overcome?
