Santa Ana, Calif., Sept. 27, 2017 -- Following completion of two successful workers’ compensation training sessions for California insurance professionals, CompWest will add two dates in Spring 2018 for its Certified Authority on Workers’ Compensation (CAWC) training initiative. CAWC is a nationally recognized program that increases workers’ compensation knowledge for brokers and agents and helps set them apart from the competition in this unique line of insurance coverage.

“We are excited to partner with our training experts at AF Group to provide knowledge and certification to our agent and broker partners here in California,” said Gene Simpson, vice president of underwriting and marketing at CompWest. “This training is an important part of our overall commitment to the California workers’ compensation market and helps agents and brokers develop real expertise in work comp, allowing them to better serve their customers.”
The designation was created for individuals to broaden their knowledge and strengthen the skills needed to successfully sell the benefits of workers’ compensation. During the three-day class, students learn:
- Fundamentals of the workers’ compensation system
- Various aspects of experience rating
- Foundations of claims management
- Importance of loss control and facilitating a safe culture
- Components to building a return-to-work program and proper accident investigation
- Alternative workers’ compensation products
- Language, significance and application of the USL&H law
- Basics of the classification process
“Thanks to the work of our training experts Joe Elliott and Amanda Schillinger, the California CAWC training has been very well received,” said Christopher Dowling, senior training specialist at AF Group. “California presents some unique challenges in workers’ compensation. We’ve designed our course to help agents and brokers bring value to their customers, while developing a deeper and broader expertise in workers’ compensation insurance.”
“As a new producer, I feel the CAWC gave me more confidence to build upon my workers’ compensation knowledge and sets me apart from the competition,” said Jennifer Spiller, a broker with the Leavitt Group in Santa Ana, Calif. “By being more knowledgeable about all aspects of workers’ compensation, I feel I am more equipped to better serve my clients and consult with them on the services that will best meet both their short- and long-term needs.”
