IT giant Cisco recently announced its intention to acquire privately held network security company Lancope, Inc. Lancope, said Marketwire, specializes in network behavior analytics, threat visibility and security intelligence. The acquisition will have Cisco shell out USD452.5 million in cash and equity, with Lancope getting absorbed by the former’s Security Business Group unit.
The acquisition appears to be a strategic one for Cisco. TechCrunch said Lancope’s capability to provide solutions to reduce the risk of enterprise data breaches via unapproved “back door” routes will purportedly help Cisco to offer security and protection, among its other established services, to its existing and new clientele.
Cisco Corporate Development Vice President Rob Salvagno said, "As enterprises digitize, security challenges rapidly evolve. Real time visibility and understanding of the behavior of every machine or device on the network becomes critical in adapting the ability of enterprises to identify and respond to the next wave of cyber threats. Cisco is committed to helping organizations defend their networks and devices. Together with Lancope, our combined solutions can help turn a customer's entire network into a security sensor."
