Burger King hopes to crown itself with a Michelin star

The burger company said that the Michelin Guide would hardly produce a star-rated restaurant that could serve exceptional dishes in five minutes.

Burger King has launched a petition demanding a Michelin star for its new Master Angus burger, which elicited a response on Facebook from the Michelin Guide's social media team.

In its reply to the post by Burger King Luxembourg, which is promoting the campaign, Michelin Guide jokingly vowed to send an inspector to judge the burger.

The Guide's standard set of criteria include the quality of ingredients, a harmony of flavors, mastery of cooking, and how much of the chef's personality is reflected through the dish.

In the Burger King campaign, followers were encouraged to sign the online petition to persuade Michelin Guide inspectors to give it a star.

The stunt didn't take off at first, with less than 500 signing the petition.

The burger company said that the Michelin Guide would hardly produce a star-rated restaurant that could serve exceptional dishes in five minutes.

"We deserve that little star, don't you think?" Burger King blurted out in its campaign.

Inspectors have awarded at least one Michelin star to more than 15,000 restaurants worldwide.

Some 105 restaurants have each received three Michelin stars, the highest that could be awarded.
