Briferendum Aftermath Series: Trumps Brexit outlook gift for Britain, nightmare for EU

In an interview with Michael Gove and German Newspaper Bild, the US President-elect Donald Trump slammed the European Union calling it a vehicle for Germany and congratulated Britain for exiting the Union. He also predicted that Britain won’t be the only country leaving the European Union. He also compared the German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Russian President Vladimir Putin calling both of them a problematic ally.

These words from the most powerful person in the world would definitely weigh on the upcoming British negotiations with the European Union. Trump called Britain a special ally and assured that he would quickly move ahead to reach a trade agreement with the United Kingdom, once he gets into office after his formal inauguration on January 20th.

Before the Britons made a decision to exit the European Union, President Obama visited the UK to urge people to vote to remain in the EU and warned that if the UK leaves, the country would have to stand in the queue after the EU to make a deal with the United States, the biggest economy in the world. Mr. Trump’s view is an 180-degree change from the Obama rhetoric and that is the biggest gift for the Kingdom. If the UK could reach a deal with the US quickly, it would certainly have an upper hand in the upcoming negotiations with the EU.
