Briferendum Aftermath Series: Key events ahead to watch out for

In the past two weeks, two major incidents took place with regard to Brexit; one, British Prime Minister Theresa May outlined her government’s Brexit vision on 17th January, secondly, the Supreme Court ruled that the government doesn’t have the power to trigger Article 50 without parliamentary consent. These two events have triggered volatilities and uncertainties with regard to Brexit and following are some events which might do the same -

  • After Supreme Court ruling, Brexit minister David Davis will be introducing the Article 50 legislation within next week.
  • Euro group is scheduled to meet on 26th January and it is the first such meeting since the UK Prime Minister Theresa May’s speech. The group would meet on 20th February and 20th March.
  • Leaders of 27 EU countries will hold an informal meeting on 3rd February.
  • European Council, which will head the Brexit negotiations, is scheduled to meet on 9th and 10th March.
  • UK government will trigger Article 50 on Friday, 31st March 2017. (expected)

These dates could see higher volatilities in related asset classes such as the pound, and FTSE 100.
