Microsoft just gave its Xbox One players an unexpected gift, with the “Borderlands: The Handsome Collection” being offered free for owners of the console. Neither the company nor 2K provided any hints that this was going to be the case. In fact, gamers only found out when the bundle popped-up in their “Ready To Install” pages.
There was absolutely no mention of the free gift coming to Xbox One owners, but anyone who wants to download the collection can do so by checking it out on the Microsoft Store right now, Kotaku reports. The publication found out about the event thanks to some of its users sending it pictures and tips about the bundle’s sudden availability.
Upon checking the Facebook pages and the respective information pages of Gearbox, Microsoft, and 2K, no hint about the event could be found. The collection is also available on the PS4 store, but owners of Sony’s console will need to pay $59.99 for it.
For PC gamers, visiting the collection’s page on the Microsoft Store will state that the game is available for free and they can attempt to download it as long as they have a Microsoft Account and an Xbox Live account. However, without an actual Xbox One console, the game won’t be available to play.
Apparently, the free collection is part of the Multiplayer All-Access event that Microsoft has going on over the weekend. The company has a video announcing it right now.
“Play online with friends FREE AND enjoy a free game unlock of Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on us!” the video’s description says.
With regards to the event itself, players will be able to participate even if they don’t have an Xbox Live Gold membership, Polygon notes. The multiplayer action started yesterday and is set to end on October 30th.
