The Black Bulls will continue fighting the elves Droit and Ecra who are currently controlling Gauche and Marie, respectively, in “Black Clover” chapter 188. While Asta is the one calling the shots, this installment will actually focus on Henry.
Henry is the one most dedicated to saving Gauche from the elves to the extent that he is ready to die for it. He has manifested his motivation in the past couple of chapters. But “Black Clover” chapter 188 will be even more special as he declares his readiness for the ultimate sacrifice if that means saving Gauche in the end.
This makes some fans worry about Henry’s fate especially now that they are starting to really love this character. “Black Clover” chapter 188 will not confirm yet whether Henry will die or survive the battle against the elves. But he is fighting alongside Asta who will certainly do all he can to avoid that.
More importantly, “Black Clover” chapter 188 will also offer a brief flashback to Henry’s life before meeting the Black Bulls. This will explain why is seemingly not bothered about the idea of dying. It was previously revealed that Henry comes from a noble family. But his body is weak and is constantly absorbing mana from those near him because his system also uses mana all the time to survive.
This condition forced his family to live in seclusion until his parents left him in a “house in the middle of the forest.” Without anyone around, he only had a certain amount of reserved mana left. This implies that he always thought he was destined to die early. But Henry recalls in “Black Clover” chapter 188 how he was literally saved when the Black Bulls found him and Yami recruited him to their squad.
A backstory as heartfelt as the one Henry has will definitely make fans love him even more. On the other hand, it could also make his possible death by sacrifice even more impactful. But, hopefully, Henry gets through this fight and have more meaningful arcs in the future. The official copy of “Black Clover” chapter 188 is slated to drop on Thursday, Jan. 3.
