One thing is clear once “Better Call Saul” returns for season 5, viewers will finally see the early days of Jimmy McGill’s actual transformation to Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk). On the other hand, this also means the prequel spinoff title is moving closer to the timeline of the original series “Breaking Bad.” Does this mean “Better Call Saul” is ending soon?
There is no definitive answer to this question at the moment. However, Odenkirk and series co-creator Peter Gould previously implied in an interview with Variety that the prequel series has more stories to tell. This could be a good sign that “Better Call Saul” season 5 might not be the final installment.
The untold stories have something to do with Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn). It was established in the first four seasons that Kim has a great influence on Jimmy’s life. However, the character was a no-show in “Breaking Bad.” This means fans will finally learn in “Better Call Saul” season 5 how and why Kim did not become part of Saul’s life in the original series.
“We have to deal with Kim. I don’t see how Kim could have been a part of Saul’s life at all. So we have to deal with that. I don’t think he’s going to backslide at all. And I think we have to see him set up the Saul persona and see it work and I do think it works,” Odenkirk said about the possibilities in “Better Call Saul” season 5.
It is also important to note that “Breaking Bad” has only had a total of five seasons. However, reports are expecting that “Better Call Saul” season 5 might not be last of the prequel spinoff simply because there are no indications of it yet.
Meanwhile, Gould added that “there’s more story to tell.” However, the showrunner also recognized that whether the show will be renewed after “Better Call Saul” season 5 does not only rely on the plot. “Some of it is a business question for our partners at AMC and Sony,” Gould added.
AMC confirmed “Better Call Saul” season 5 a week before season 4 premiered in 2018. Later that year, it was reported that production is slated to start next month and could last until August. In this case, the show might get a fall release date.
