Best Buy, the American consumer electronics retailer, headquartered in Richfield, Minnesota, announced a recall for 772,000 Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens. The recall affects the products sold in the United States and Canada.
According to Fox Business, a recall has been ordered as more than 100 reports of air fryers catching fire, melting, or burning were forwarded to the company. The affected products include around 635,000 Insignia Digital Air Fryers, Insignia Digital Air Fryer Ovens, and Insignia Analog Air Fryers in the U.S. In Canada, 137,000 units of the said kitchen appliance are affected.
All of the products were said to have been made in China and were sold at Best Buy outlets across the U.S. and some of its online stores. The air fryers were also sold via google’s online market and eBay from 2018 to February 2022. The items were sold for $30 up to $150.
Best Buy will be issuing a refund of at least $50 for the defective air fryers that are included in the recall. Insignia also posted a recall announcement and included photos of the air fryers that have plastic or a combination of plastic and stainless steel bodies.
All the items show the INSIGNIA label on the top or front face of the unit. Customers can check the model number at the sides to see if their air fryer is being recalled as well. The air fryers have cooking capacities ranging from 3.9 to 11.4 liters, and the model numbers in the U.S. are Air Fryers: NS-AF32DBK9, NS-AF32MBK9, NS-AF50MBK9, NS-AF53DSS0, NS-AF53MSS0, and NS-AF55DBK9. For the air fryer ovens: NS-AFO6DBK1 and NS-AFO6DSS1.
In Canada, the numbers for the air fryers are NS-AF32MBK9-C, NS-AF50DBK0-C, NS-AF50MBK9-C, NS-AF53MSS0-C, and NS-AF55DBK9-C and NS-AFO6DSS1-C for the oven type.
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled air fryers and air fryer ovens and return the product to Best Buy for a refund in the form of a credit for use at Best Buy stores or Bestbuy.com," the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission wrote in the recall. "Best Buy is contacting all known purchasers directly to arrange returns and providing pre-paid shipping boxes and labels and return instructions."
