There are still several months left before “Avengers 4” is out on the big screen. But lately, there have been a number of artworks circulating online which are believed to be legitimate artworks for the film. If that is the case, fans may already have the first look at Thanos’s (Josh Brolin) new weapon as well as the new costumes for some characters.
On Wednesday, a photo believed to be an authentic artwork for “Avengers 4” reportedly revealed the Mad Titan’s new choice of weapon. It appears to be a silver sword with the handle placed in the middle.

If this ends up being Thanos’s weapon in “Avengers 4,” fans can expect him to be swirling this sword like a baton as he takes on the superheroes. A sword of the same design was seen in several Thanos action figures before. But some fans still have questions about the rumored weapon.
For one, some might be wondering why Thanos would need another weapon if he already has the Infinity Gauntlet. The answer to this came from no less than the Russo Brothers. The directors previously confirmed that Thanos is likely able to heal the wounds he sustained in “Infinity War” but they reminded fans that “there is a cost to using the power of the Stones.” And this is possibly going to be reflected in “Avengers 4.”
The bottom line is when Thanos killed half of the universe, he also acquired permanent damages. Joe Russo explained, “See there, with his Gauntlet and the arm, the power that it takes to use all six Stones is significant, and clearly damaged the Gauntlet and damaged Thanos permanently.” This permits the need for a new fearsome weapon in “Avengers 4.” But the question remains whether it is going to be a plain-looking sword shown in the so-called leaked artworks.
Reddit user anirudhhmarvel shared another artwork of a “mysterious weapon” — a double ax on steroids — rumored to be used in “Avengers 4.” This is unlikely to be Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) Stormbreaker because the God of Thunder’s latest armament is shown in a different photo and remains to be a single-blade ax.
Apart from the new weapons, Captain America (Chris Evans) is rumored to get a newly designed costume for “Avengers 4.” His “new” attire is supposedly clad in a scale-like design. However, fans are advised to take this with a grain of salt as well.
Captain America went through major costume changes in “Infinity War” already. He has grown a beard and ditched the helmet with a chin strap. But the pixelated images claimed to be “Avengers 4” renders show the opposite.
It will take a while before any of these details will be confirmed. "Avengers 4" is slated to premiere on May 3, 2019.
