Ashton Kutcher announces $4M XRP donation to Ellen DeGeneres on Ripple’s behalf

Hollywood actor and venture capitalist Ashton Kutcher on Wednesday announced a $4 million donation in XRP to American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres’s Wildlife Fund.

Ashton Kutcher is the co-founder of a venture capital firm Sound Ventures. On the Wednesday episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Kutcher said that he has come across a “very interesting tech company” called Ripple, adding that they are going to invest in the startup.

He said that he has been meeting the startup’s founder Chris Larsen and CEO Brad Garlinghouse, adding:

“So, we were meeting with these folks… and they are talking about the ethics of this company and this platform and how they actually really care about being an ethical company and giving a portion of this platform away to people that are doing good in the world.”

Referencing DeGeneres’ wildlife conservation efforts, Kutcher then underscored how much DeGeneres is involved in the project. He said that he spoke to the Ripple team about DeGeneres, adding:

“So, on behalf of Ripple, we’d like to give you $4 million. Now, usually people come out with a big giant check and do the ‘big giant check thing’, but we can transfer it into Rwandan Francs right now right here, and all you need to do is push this button.”

He made the transaction on the air using XRP’s payment app, further demonstrating the tech’s ability to enable simple and fast cross-border transactions.

CCN reported that Ripple has been donating millions of dollars worth of XRP to non-profit organizations in the past couple of months. The startup recently donated $29 million in XRP to fund 35,000 classroom projects on DonorsChoose, an educational crowdfunding website.
