“Animal Kingdom” season 4 was officially renewed in July. TNT did not think twice when it announced the renewal since the series was able to maintain its high ratings.
According to Deadline, season 3 showed an impressive viewership rating when it kicked off on June 14 with a two-hour premiere episode. It reportedly drew around 4.3 million viewers on TV and garnered over 1 million engagements on social media within the first week since it aired.
The show’s title alone raises curiosity so this may have played a role in the drama's success. People can easily assume it is some kind of a documentary similar to those featured on Animal Planet, but “Animal Kingdom” is totally different.
In fact, it is a drama that tells the story of a 17-year-old lad who, after the death of his mother, moved in with the Codys, his estranged relatives that turned out to be a criminal family. The boy had no choice but to live with his dysfunctional kin, headed by the matriarch Janine Cody, and that is where his story mainly revolves around.
Moreover, as per The Wrap, “Animal Kingdom” is an adaptation of the Australian thriller of the same title, which was first released in 2010. However, the story was already too stretched to come up with new seasons.
Cast
“Animal Kingdom” season 4 will still retain its original cast, led by Ellen Barkin (Jaime Cody a.k.a. Smurf), Shawn Hatosy (Andrew "Pope" Cody), Ben Robson (Craig Cody), Jake Weary (Deran Cody), Finn Cole (Joshua "J" Cody) and Carolina Guerra (Lucy). Recurring guest stars like Aamya Deva Keroles (Lena Blackwell) and C. Thomas Howell (Paul Belmont) may return at some point on the show.
Netflix Release
Currently, the drama only airs on TNT in the U.S. and on Bravo in Canada. With limited viewing outlets, many fans are hoping that the producers will consider releasing “Animal Kingdom” season 4 on Netflix.
They argued that having the show on the popular streaming site would definitely give it a higher viewership rating as more people around the globe will have the chance to watch it. With the fans’ request, TNT may seriously think about the suggestion.
Air Date
“Animal Kingdom” season 4 does not have a definite air date yet. However, based on the previous schedule pattern, the next one is likely to arrive in May or June 2019.
