“Messy” has been the choice of word in various reports covering the still-not-finalized divorce of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. But a very recent article had also claimed that both parties are still trying to resolve things, especially the custody of their six kids, without going to court.
Reports on Tuesday confirmed that lawyers of Jolie and Pitt have filed the legal papers to formally ask the court for more time to come up with a custody agreement. Specifically, the estranged couple is hoping to have until June 30, 2019 before a trial is set (if necessary), PEOPLE reported.
Jolie and Pitt are apparently doing everything to avoid going to a court trial since it would invite more media frenzy over their divorce. However, despite their formal request, it was also reported this week that they will be meeting in court on Dec. 4. Part of the documents obtained by PEOPLE read, “Trial on the bifurcated issue of custody is to begin on December 4.”
Along with the reported court hearing, there were claims that Angelina Jolie is insisting on having sole physical custody of their kids — a claim that has already been denied by an insider. On the other hand, Brad Pitt reportedly wants a 50-50 share of custody of the children.
Meanwhile, it is still unclear if Jolie and Pitt’s request for a time extension of more than seven months would push through. In case it would not be granted, the Brangelina couple has less than a month to come up with a mutually agreed upon custody arrangements to avoid the hearing in early December.
Resolving the custody arrangements is unlikely the end of their divorce drama. Another major aspect to be heard is the division of their properties and fortune. TMZ had reported that Jolie and Pitt did not sign a prenuptial agreement, which could add to possible complications of the entire proceedings.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt met at the set of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” where, she later admitted, their romance started. A trip to Kenya together in 2005 confirmed their relationship, which was just months since Jennifer Aniston filed for divorce from Pitt, but only got married in 2014. The actress filed for divorce in August 2016 citing “irreconcilable differences.”
