“Altered Carbon” Season 2 is one of the most anticipated follow up by a lot of people given how successful its predecessor was. The sci-fi drama introduced quite the world for audiences who weren’t familiar with the works of Richard K. Morgan.
They also got to meet interesting and compelling characters like Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman), Detective Ortega (Martha Higareda), and Poe (Chris Conner). However, Kinnaman will not be reprising his role in “Altered Carbon” Season 2 as Kovacs and has been replaced by Anthony Mackie, Den of Geek reported.
But given how the technology in the world works, this isn’t an issue at all. For the uninitiated, the story is set in a universe where humans have achieved immortality through technology and highly advance bio-science. Those who are rich enough can potentially live forever by changing artificially made bodies called sleeves. So in “Altered Carbon” Season 2, Kovac’s consciousness can simply be housed in a new sleeve in the form of Mackie.
It’s still unclear whether Higareda will be reprising her role as the strong-willed detective as production hasn’t even begun. “Altered Carbon” Season 2 is scheduled to start filming next month and fans can expect more information in the coming months.
As for the story of the second installment, this is still unclear either. However, showrunner Laeta Kalogridis said that they do have plans for “Altered Carbon” Season 2 and how its story will unfold.
“We want to do something surprising with the second season that is not in the same place with the same people,” Kalogridis told Entertainment Weekly. “I think the universe of these books gives you more latitude... Richard [K. Morgan] and I have a plan, I don’t know how people will feel about the plan, but we do have one!” As for the release date of “Altered Carbon” Season 2, there’s still no announcement on it given production is just about to start. However, if the speculations are to be believed, the second installment could arrive sometime in the first half of 2020.
