Volkswagen unveiled its first vehicles with a voice assistant that utilizes the artificial intelligence (AI) technology behind ChatGPT at the CES electronics trade show in Las Vegas. This feature aims to enhance driver experience and provide valuable functionalities in Volkswagen models with the "IDA" voice assistant.
Voice Assistant Capabilities
As per Fox Business, the IDA voice assistant reads researched content to drivers while behind the wheel, enabling them to enjoy additional features.
Reuters noted that these include answering general knowledge questions and seamlessly controlling various systems within the car, such as infotainment, navigation, and air conditioning.
Volkswagen envisions AI technology to evolve continually, providing even more comprehensive responses and functionality. In the future, users may expect vehicle-specific information and intuitive language interactions, allowing for more precise communication and enhanced conversations.
Volkswagen partnered with Cerence Inc. to integrate ChatGPT into their voice assistant. As a result, the German automaker becomes the first volume manufacturer to incorporate the AI chatbot as a standard feature across its compact car lineup.
User-Friendly Experience
One of the notable aspects of this integration is its seamless usability. Drivers do not need to create a new account or install additional apps. Simply activating the IDA voice assistant is as easy as saying "Hello IDA" or pressing a button conveniently located on the steering wheel.
Volkswagen prioritizes the protection of user data. ChatGPT does not gain access to any vehicle information, and all questions and answers are promptly deleted to ensure data privacy. Facilitating this secure environment is Cerence Chat Pro, which employs multiple sources, including OpenAI's ChatGPT, to provide accurate and relevant responses.
With the unveiling of their voice assistant powered by AI, Volkswagen's commitment to innovation and improved driver experience takes center stage. This latest integration demonstrates the brand's continuous pursuit of blending cutting-edge technology seamlessly with their vehicles.
