UK fintech startup Revolut raises $66M in Series B funding, adds bitcoin services

UK-based fintech startup Revolut announced that it has raised $66 million in a Series B funding round and has added a suite of cryptocurrency services.

Reuters reported that the funding round saw investments from Europe’s most well-known investors including Index Ventures, Balderton Capital and Ribbit Capital. The funding also came from leading blockchain startups BitPay and Xapo.

The company told Reuters that it is adding digital currency bitcoin (BTC=BTSP) to its mobile app with respect to the response to high demand from customers. With the new feature, users can hold, exchange, spend and transfer bitcoin the same way they use other currencies. The company plans to add Ether and Litecoin soon.

Revolut also secured more funds from London-based Balderton Capital and Californian Ribbit Capital. The latest cash injection takes its total investment so far to $83 million. It says that will run a further $5 million crowdfunding campaign this month.

The company said that it has around 700,000 customers, over 400,000 of them based in Britain that provide payment cards, which can be used abroad to pay for goods and services at the exchange rate.
