‘The Dark Tower’ Cast, Updates: Idris Elba Confirms End of Filming for Stephen King Movie Adaptation, Included in Shortlist for James Bond Candidates

‘The Dark Tower’ lead actor Idris Elba confirmed the end of filming for the upcoming Stephen King movie adaptation on social media. Meanwhile, Elba is reportedly included in the short list of actors that may become the next James Bond.

According to Comicbook.com, Elba announced the end of filming for Nikolaj Arcel’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation based Stephen King’s bestselling book series of the same name through a post on Twitter. The post dates August 28 was read, “I'm done filming, spoke to the director the other day and he said the edit is coming along really well.”

Idris Elba portrays lead protagonist Roland Deschain in Arcel’s film. Deschain is a man descended from a long line of gunslingers heralded as the peacekeepers and diplomats of his fictional society. He is also known as the last human descendant of Arthur Eld, the ancient king of the All-World and the greatest hero if Mid-World.

Joining Elba in the cast is Matthew McConaughey, who plays main antagonist Man In Black. McConaughey’s character often appeared under different names in King’s original novels but is best known as Randal Flagg or Walter Padick. The Man In Black is an all-powerful sorcerer with the abilities of necromancy and prophecy.

Other members of the cast include Jackie Earle Haley, Tom Taylor, Katheryn Winnick, Abbey Lee, Claudia Kim, Nicholas Hamilton, Fran Kranz, Alex McGregor, and Michael Barbieri.

Not much is known about the upcoming film’s actual storyline but it was previously reported by /Film that the film’s first footage will premiere on October. It will be screened as part of Entertainment Weekly’s PopFest, which is scheduled to run from October 29 to 30 in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Elba has been included in the short list of actors eyed for the role of the new James Bond should current actor Daniel Craig decides to exit the popular franchise. According to Business Standard, the 43-year old English actor has been announced as one of the contenders for the coveted role together with Aidan Turner, Luke Evans and Tom Hiddleston.

‘The Dark Tower’ is an upcoming adventure-horror and fantasy film scheduled to be released on February 17, 2017. It is directed by Nikolaj Arcel and written for the big screen by Arcel, Akiva Goldsman, and Anders Thomas Jensen. It is produced by Akiva Goldsman, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Stephen King with G. Mac Brown, Erica Huggins, and Jeff Pinkner executive producing.
