Sberbank working on blockchain-based IT-platform

According to latest reports, Sberbank, one of the largest banks of Russia, has plans to complete the creation of a new blockchain-based IT-platform by the end of 2018, Forklog reported.

In an interview with TV channel Russia 24, the head of Sberbank German Gref said that the bank is interested in all the technologies that are somehow related to finances.

“Most of these breakthrough technologies - is, of course, the blockchain technology”, he said (according to loosely translated version). “What we are doing now - our new platform - will allow a drastically improve all services. Our task is to make so that all you ever needed to come to the bank."

“Today, you come to the bank, because we need your identification, we need your passport, your free will. Technologies such as image recognition, voice recognition - they allow you to come to the fact that we can recognize you through a remote channel through video, through telephone”.

He further stated that currently trials of the platform elements are being conducted and that commercial operation will begin next year.

The announcement follows recent remarks made by Gref that warned that introducing criminal liability for cryptocurrency transactions in Russia will hinder the development of blockchain technology in the country.
