Russia to get blockchain competence center in September

Vnesheconombank, a Russian state corporation, along with Ethereum and Bitfury, are going to set up the first Russian competence center focusing on blockchain and distributed ledger technologies (DLTs), CoinFox reported.

According to Russian News Agency TASS, Sergey Gorkov, chairman of Vnesheconobank, said that the bank has been already working with these partners. The center will be established in the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. It will focus on exploring innovative technologies, developing platforms for their use in government organisations, and on training specialists.

“We intend to make this center in cooperation with them, it is scheduled to be opened in September, and we have been working with them for a long time, according to the pilot project in Rosreestr, I mean, on a pilot interior project of VEB. We are now planning to move from the sandbox to the competence center,” he said (as quoted by CoinFox).

Gorkov went on to state that VEB also intends to build a national blockchain based on Ethereum and the Exonum platform of Bitfury. The state corporation will also be involved in the certification of cryptography systems, technology seminars, and certification of specialists and trainers. In the future, it intends to introduce prototypes created at the center into industries.

“We are glad that there will be great projects from the point of view of prototypes, and we will be ready to evaluate and finance them,” he said.
