Pixel 6 Wi-Fi issues will be fixed in March, Google says it affects a 'very small number' of phones

Google has recognized an issue that causes the Wi-Fi connection to turn off automatically in Pixel 6 devices. The company said it only affects a few users but promised to deploy a fix next month.

Google released a February 2022 patch last Feb. 8 for Pixel phones with specific fixes for the Pixel 6 series. But several users started experiencing issues with the device’s Wi-Fi connection after installing the update.

Reddit user cheesehead78 reported that the Wi-Fi on their Pixel 6 was “shutting off constantly” after installing the February 2022 patch. They added that the issue appeared to take place when the phone sleeps, and they have to enable the Wi-Fi manually when they open the device.

The same user added that they later installed the Android 12L beta 3, which seemed to have fixed the issue for them, leading to further speculations that the problem was caused by the stable version with February 2022 patch. More people using Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro commented to the Reddit post and confirmed they were experiencing the same Wi-Fi issues. Others noted that when they tried to enable the Wi-Fi from the quick menu, they were seeing the Bluetooth toggle in the background.

A few Pixel 6 users who contacted Google about the same issue said they were advised to troubleshoot the issue by performing a factory reset. But ultimately, the band-aid fix did not work for them.

Google responded directly to the same Reddit post on Tuesday (via 9To5Google) and confirmed the issue. “After some investigation, we identified the root cause and determined that it impacts a very small number of devices,” the company said. “Of course, we realize this is a poor experience and immediately developed a software fix that will be available in the next Google Pixel Update, rolling out in March.”

The monthly patch for Pixel phones is usually released in the earlier part of the month, so the promised fix could go live in a week or two. Since Wi-Fi is a crucial function, users who need the issue addressed may want to try installing the public version of the Android 12L beta 3 as well, which is currently available to Pixel 6 devices.
