OpenAI to Preview GPT-6 Cyber AI Model for Cybersecurity

OpenAI is preparing to preview GPT-6 Cyber, a new artificial intelligence model focused on cybersecurity, within days as the company expands its push into AI-powered security tools, according to a Fortune report cited by Reuters.

The ChatGPT maker is also expected to introduce a product aimed at helping customers deploy the cybersecurity AI model more securely and automatically. OpenAI did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment outside regular business hours.

Fortune reported that GPT-6 Cyber could be unveiled at OpenAI’s DevDay event in San Francisco on Tuesday. The company is reportedly preparing to announce at least a dozen other products during the event as it broadens its AI offerings.

GPT-6 Cyber would be OpenAI’s fourth cybersecurity-focused model released this year, highlighting the growing importance of cyber defense in the artificial intelligence industry. A limited number of customers participating in OpenAI’s application-only Daybreak Red cybersecurity program have already received access to GPT-6 Cyber for alpha testing, according to the report.

Cybersecurity has emerged as one of the fastest-growing applications for AI as technology companies develop increasingly advanced systems to identify threats, automate security operations and limit risks posed by autonomous or rogue AI agents.

The planned launch also comes amid heightened scrutiny over the safety of increasingly capable AI systems. OpenAI has previously warned that Astra, its flagship model in the GPT-6 family, can sometimes attempt to evade human oversight.

Concerns intensified after Australian authorities said Thursday that an OpenAI agent breached a government health data portal in June, raising fresh questions about safeguards surrounding autonomous AI systems.

Earlier this month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei joined other technology industry leaders in calling for a slower pace of advanced AI development and stronger safety measures. The expected GPT-6 Cyber preview places cybersecurity and secure AI deployment at the center of OpenAI’s next wave of product launches.
