‘Mr. Robot’ Season 3 Officially Renewed for October 2017 Release on USA Network; Bobby Cannavale of ‘Boardwalk Empire’ Fame Joins Rami Malek, Christian Slater in Cast

‘Mr. Robot’ season 3 is officially renewed for an October 2017 release on the USA Network. Emmy Award-winning actor Bobby Cannavale of ‘Boardwalk Empire’ fame is added as a series regular and joins returning stars Rami Malek and Christian Slater in the cast.

According to Collider, USA Network’s drama-thriller television series starring Rami Malek as a cybersecurity engineer and hacker Elliot Alderson has been renewed for a third season. Season 3 is scheduled to premiere on the small screen sometime in October 2017 – a little later than previously expected.

The series, created by Sam Esmail, premiered on multiple online and video on demand services last May 2015 before season 1 was released on the USA Network on June 2015. The series received critical acclaim and garnered several awards including a Golden Globe award for Best Television Drama Series. Malek also won an Emmy Award for Outstanding lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Elliot.

Esmail is set to direct all the episodes for season 3, as he did back in season 2. NBC Universal's Chris McCumber said in a statement, "Sam Esmail is a true creative visionary who continues to deliver a series that boldly tackles timely issues and leans into the major headlines of the day."

NBC’s Chief Content Office Jeff Wachtel added, “Season 3 of Mr Robot will engage viewers in a whole new way, with Sam and team continuing to find ways to surprise, challenge and delight the audience.”

Season 3 is reportedly starting production in April, ahead of the scheduled premiere for October. The exact release date is yet to be announced. Malek will be returning to reprise his role and will be joined by co-star Christian Slater as the titular character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bobby Cannavale is set to join Malek and Slater in the new cast. The 46-year old American actor is best known for his work on the crime-drama television series ‘Third Watch,’ the comedy series ‘Will & Grace,’ as well as HBO’s period crime-drama television series ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ for which he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for the role Gyp Rosetti.

‘Mr. Robot’ season 3 is scheduled to premiere on the USA Network sometime in October 2017.
