Industry experts to discuss blockchain and object capabilities at The Next Frontier Symposium

A number of prominent industry experts will come together next week for a symposium that aims to delve into the core properties of blockchain and explore why the technology alone is not enough for fully enabling the future of decentralization.

“The Next Frontier: Blockchain meets Object-Capabilities” event will be held on July 3, in San Francisco’s Alamo Square district. The symposium has been announced by the Economic Space Agency’s (ECSA) newest project, GRAVITY, and will take place in partnership with the Foresight Institute.

The panelists will discuss how blockchain can go beyond its current state to better support both privacy and security. They will focus on a promising direction: object-capabilities, which are backed by a secure computational model that may give token holders the ability to safely perform operations in a scalable distributed system that support privacy. The panel includes distinguished experts in the fields of blockchain and object-capabilities, who will discuss how these technologies can be used in combination to develop a platform that expands upon blockchain’s key features of decentralization and security. Panelists include:

  • Mark S. Miller, a Senior Fellow at the Foresight Institute
  • Zooko Wilcox, CEO and Co-founder of Zcash
  • Brian Warner, Co-founder of Tahoe-LAFS
  • Jorge Lopez, Chief Technology Officer of the Economic Space Agency

According to the official release, the panel will be moderated by Michael Casey, a blockchain expert who currently works for the Digital Currency Initiative at the MIT Media Lab.

“We are honored to convene this panel, which features some of the most illustrious names in the cryptography and cryptocurrencies, to discuss a pressing issue that must be addressed to secure the future of blockchain. As cyberattacks become increasingly prevalent, the limited scope of blockchain technology, as it currently exists, leaves users vulnerable. By introducing object-capabilities to blockchain, we can enhance security through greater decentralization of authority, providing an operating fabric that will revolutionize the field of distributed computing”, Jorge Lopez, CTO of Economic Space Agency and lead architect of GRAVITY, said.
