Enterprise software firm SAP joins Hyperledger blockchain project as Premier member
Blockchain project Hyperledger has announced the addition of SAP, one of the market leaders in enterprise application software, as a Premier member.
The announcement follows the recent addition of one of the most successful automotive companies Daimler AG and an American multinational financial services corporation, American Express.
As a part of the Premier membership of SAP, Dominik Heere, Vice President, Innovation Engineering, SAP Innovation Center Network, will be representing the company on the Governing Board of Hyperledger Project.
“Having support from an enterprise software and cloud leader like SAP is an important step in the right direction. The diversity of our members is a real strength, as we look to advance open blockchain technology POCs, pilots, and production deployments across many industries this year. I couldn’t be happier to see the level of collaboration and progress that is happening among our community right now,” Brian Behlendorf, Executive Director, Hyperledger, stated.
The enterprise software firm has planned to use blockchain in existing and new business scenarios for enterprises. SAP will be implementing blockchain technology to its wide range of portfolio including the SAP Ariba network to enable use cases like provenance scenarios, digital object representations or collaborative transaction execution, the release stated.
With more members joining the blockchain project, Hyperledger aims to create a common distributed ledger technology that enables organizations to build and run robust, industry-specific applications, platforms and hardware systems to support their individual business transactions.
“We believe blockchain is a transformative technology for enterprise businesses. We are committed to advancing its adoption via the creation of new standards, use cases, platforms and open applications,” Juergen Mueller, Chief Innovation Officer at SAP, said. “In joining Hyperledger, we plan to share our expertise and knowledge to help bring open distributed ledger technology to all businesses.”
