Dutch Blockchain Hackathon to take place in February 2017, Deloitte announces support

‘Big Four’ consultancy firm Deloitte is supporting the Dutch Blockchain Hackathon, to be held on 10-12 February, 2017 in Groningen.

Organized by DutchChain, it will be the largest hackathon of its kind in Europe. The hackathon’s objective is to work in multidisciplinary teams on blockchain based solutions, for challenges that are submitted by use case owners. These challenges are primarily focused on improving society through the use of blockchain technology.

“Our goal is to involve and strengthen the entire ecosystem of government, corporates, the scientific community, startups and grownups and really start accelerating Blockchain based solutions”, the website reads.

Those interested can either sign-up as a team or an individual. They can work with Bluemix, Hyperledger, Azure, or any other tools they prefer including open-source.

The winners will be selected by a jury based on criteria such as business case, societal value, innovation and openness. Total prize money is € 50,000, of which € 10,000 has been allotted for each track, € 7,500 for winners, and € 2,500 for runner-up.

In addition to a cash prize, the winning team will get the opportunity to present their solution at a large conference and further develop their prototype in an acceleration phase (together with the partner).

Deloitte will facilitate a pre-hackathon at Deloitte Rotterdam, titled ‘How to win a hackathon?’ on January 18th. During this session, it will look at the tracks and use cases, form teams and fill in spots. Deloitte will also give participants practical tips on how to pitch and valuable pointers on how to come up with winning solutions.
