Bitcoin community vis-a-vis women entrepreneurs

The so-called male dominant society is a thing of the past with women making their mark equally in every field. The stereotypes have been broken with more and more women stepping out of their homes and into the business arena.

The bitcoin community is also not untouched with this revolution. Blythe Masters, CEO of Digital Asset Holdings; Perianne Boring, founder and President of Chamber of Digital Commerce; Vitctoria van Eyk, VP Community Development at ChangeTip and Partner at BTC Strategy Group; Christine Lu, co-founder of cross border China investments firm and Bitcoin advocate; Karen Gifford, Chief Compliance Officer of Ripple Labs are well-known names in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

The number of female entrepreneurs entering the business world is also growing day by day. A recent report by Telegraph shows the number of female entrepreneurs drawing down loans through Government-backed funding initiative Start Up Loans.

"An analysis of Start Up Loan applications shows that 37pc of successful applicants were women last year, compared to the national average of women taking up business loans overall of just 18pc, according to the Office for National Statistics. In the first half of 2015, the proportion of female entrepreneurs accessing capital through the scheme was even higher, hitting 42pc", it said.

Bitcoin can also play a major part in boosting female entrepreneurship. The low cost of bitcoin transactions will help the female entrepreneurs on one hand, and the bitcoin space will benefit from rising awareness and acceptance on the other. Business angels in bitcoin should come forward to help these aspiring women entrepreneurs.

Some efforts are already being made to spread bitcoin awareness among women:

BWEA: Bitcoin Women Entrepreneurs Association will facilitate networking, promote business cooperation between members and inspire women interested in Bitcoin to change their perspectives to start using cryptocurrencies.

The Bitcoin Wife: Supports and promotes Bitcoin and provides interesting ideas on where and how to spend the digital curreny as a woman.

Women in Bitcoin: A space for women and supporters to learn more about bitcoin, and build partnerships and meaningful relationships to promote women in bitcoin.

More of these kinds of efforts are needed to remove the gender imbalance not only in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, but also from the entire business world.
