What science says about second-hand vaping

An electronic cigarette is a new product in the world market, bringing new value to the consumer. This value is not only in the delivery of nicotine but also in the satisfaction of psychological addiction- the exhalation ritual.

What is second-hand smoking?

"Second-hand smoking" is a term that refers to involuntary inhalation of air with the people dissolved in it by tobacco smoke surrounding the cigarette being tightened. This phenomenon is most noticeable in closed rooms. That is why more measures are being taken to ban smoking in public places.

The harm of second-hand smoke is even higher than that of active smoking. Everyone should be aware of this. Despite the fact that the active and passive smoker both breathe one air, the first one does not get back his lungs smoke. But second-hand smoker "enjoys" the full range of tobacco products.

Do people give up smoking because of second-hand smoking effect?

In fact, Americans are smoking less. While more than 40 percent of Americans smoked in 1965, only about 18 percent did in 2012. However, given that our population grew over that time, the net drop in American smokers — 1965’s 50 million smokers versus 2012’s 42 million — is only 8 million. That drop in the rate of smoking probably didn’t just happen. The government and a host of nonprofits have waged a long and hard campaign against smoking.

Are there any research proofs?

In a study conducted in 2013, a team of American and Polish scientists, including Maciej Gonevich from the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, measured the nicotine, aerosol particles, carbon monoxide and VOC emissions from various electronic cigarettes. They also found a passive effect of nicotine - 10 times lower than cigarette smoke. "The use of an electronic cigarette indoors may inadvertently jeopardize people who do not consume nicotine, but do not bring toxic combustion products specific to tobacco," they concluded.

Greek cardiologist Konstantinos Farsalinos and his team conducted an experiment in which it was found that electronic cigarettes contain much less poisonous substances than in tobacco analogs. If you have heart rhythm disturbances, extrasystoles and you notice that the rhythm is lost during the soaring, then Konstantinos Farsalinos advises switching to a non-nicotine liquid. Nicotine, like caffeine, affects the nervous system and, as a consequence, changes the work of the heart the way caffeine does it.

In the United States, a social survey was conducted, during which it became clear that American vapers have a low level of knowledge about the effects of e-cigarettes on the body. More than 40% of respondents consider it permissible to smoke electronic cigarettes in the presence of small children, believing that it is harmless. About 30% could not answer, whether they consider passive vaping dangerous.

Traditionally, scientists suggest a further study of the effect of electronic cigarettes on health, and in a number of countries, restrictions are imposed on the implementation of devices for wapping and consumables to them. Recall, in early May, the Belarusian president supported the proposal to equate electric steam generators with tobacco products.

What do we know about second-hand smoke?

Despite the fact that the harm of smoking was known back in the middle of the 20th century, for a long time no one thought about passive smoking, and even more so about its harm. Moreover, the damage of second-hand smoke was realized only in the 90's. And in the early 2000s, the anti-smoking campaign in restaurants, bars, and public places began to gain popularity. Today in all developed countries there are special rules for smoking in public areas.

Speaking about the passive harm from vaping, it is first of all necessary to note the critical fact that insufficient time has passed for a full study of the effect of e-vapor based on a mixture of propylene glycol and glycerin on the health of surrounding people. For this reason, I would like to pay particular attention to vaping in public places, because surrounding people with a good idea have the right to believe that passive vaping is able to harm their health.

It's another question when we compare second-hand vaporization with conventional cigarettes. If we logically weigh the pros and cons, it is necessary to conduct research activities for decades. However, most experts dealing with the study of the second-hand harm of vaping converge on the idea that the juul vapor cannot have such a destructive effect on the organism. But still, people have to understand that the potential harm that can affect the health of your loved ones and surrounding people should not be entirely shifted to the shoulders of researchers alone.

Glycerin and propylene glycol are the main components of liquids for juul vape here. These fat molecules are part of household chemicals, some food additives and do not pose a danger to people. However, under the influence of high temperatures, the molecules break down, and therefore carcinogens are formed. Accumulating in the lungs in large quantities, they lead to a deterioration in the transport of oxygen. The result of this action is the decay of cell death and the decay of lung tissue. You can read any juul review to find out more information.

There are several recommendations on how to prevent harming people that are near you:

  • Do not allow yourself to vape in public places in cases where there are a lot of people around you who can react negatively to your occupation
  • Do not be lazy or shy to ask whether people that surround you are against if you vape a little
  • Particular attention should be given to children and pregnant women. Remember that the body of this category of citizens is particularly sensitive to environmental changes
  • Remember about the visual effect, which is the vaping show to teenagers. If there is someone who has never smoked, it is not a very good idea to be an advertisement for a bad habit

Conclusion

Although Americans smoke less, the problem of second-hand smoking has become relevant recently. The obtained data are contradictory. It's no secret that there are the gadget manufacturers themselves have engaged in many studies that testify to the complete harmlessness of vaping. Second-hand vaporization is less harmful than the inhalation of tobacco smoke due to the lower content of poisonous substances in it. The inhalation of steam in large quantities causes damage to health regardless of whether a person smokes himself or is nearby.
