“The Witcher” is a Netflix series that fans of the Polish fantasy property are treating with both anticipation and dread. Anticipation because it’s a live-action adaptation of one of the most original and thrilling entertainment franchises in the world. Dread because Netflix has a tendency to muck up its adaptations. Based on the reactions to the first appearance of Henry Cavill as Geralt, this fear is well-founded.
A compilation by ScreenRant of funny reactions to the costume test featuring Henry Cavill in Witcher getup might paint a hilarious picture of this particular issue. However, fans of “The Witcher” are not amused when their favorite character might end up looking like a bad case of amateur cosplay hour. Among the biggest complaint expressed on social media is that the actor simply doesn’t look like Geralt.
Now, it’s worth pointing out that the final product could look significantly better than what was shown after all of the post-production editing is done. This is basically where all of the effects featured on “The Witcher” will be added. However, there are concerns with regards to Henry Cavill lacking many of the facial features commonly associated with the monster slayer.
Specifically, he doesn’t have any scars and has hardly any facial hair. With “The Witcher” series, that Netflix is developing, being based on the books, this is to be expected. Even so, fans were still caught off-guard with the actor looking very much like himself wearing a wig and leather armor. Considering the initial reaction to this reveal, one can only imagine how bad the rest of the cast might look.
Just to give fans some idea as to how the rest of “The Witcher” characters might appear in the series, Comic Book recently featured photos of the actors that have been confirmed to play roles in the show. As to when the show is expected to premiere, the only time period confirmed is 2019. However, some have speculated that it might come out in the fall.
