‘Supernatural’ Season 12, Episode 9 Spoilers: "First Blood" – Sam, Dean Locked Away in Maximum Security Prison; Mary, Castiel Race to Track Boys Down

‘Supernatural’ season 12’s episode 9, titled "First Blood," is set to follow Sam and Dean as they are locked away in a maximum security prison after being arrested by the Secret Service. Meanwhile, Mary and Castiel race to track the boys down.

The synopsis for “First Blood” posted on TV Guide reads, “After being arrested for the attempted assassination of the President of the United States, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) must find a way out of an underground, government-run, detention facility in the middle of nowhere.

Determined to find her sons, Mary (Samantha Smith) and Castiel (Misha Collins) seek assistance from an unlikely source.”

The previous episode, titled "LOTUS," saw Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) possessing the President of the United States Jefferson Rooney (David Chisum). While inhabiting Rooney’s body, Lucifer was able to conceive a nephilim with Rooney’s staffer Kelley (Courtney Ford).

Lucifer was eventually sent back to hell by the Winchester brothers but they got arrested by the Secret Service on the assumption of trying to assassinate the president. To make things worse, Kelley fled instead of terminating the nephilim that she was carrying.

The promo for episode 9 shows Sam and Dean locked in a maximum security prison but separated from each other. When Sam asks where they are, they tell him that they are in a place that doesn’t officially exist. It will be interesting to see how they escape from containment in the next few episodes.

Mary and Castiel then move to track the boys down before it’s too late. However, the promo shows them being surrounded by agents before they could get to Sam and Dean. It was hinted that they would need to seek the assistance from an unlikely ally.

According to TV Line, executive producer Andrew Dabb revealed, “We’re going to be building in about a six-week time jump… We’ll see how Sam and Dean act in that period of isolation, but also how the rest of the world reacts, as well — specifically Cas and Mary and some other players.”

He continued, “The people that have them think they’re real, legitimate criminals, albeit kind of terrorists more than your common thief or anything like that. Sam and Dean [are] facing something where it’s not like they can do what they normally do.”

‘Supernatural’ season 12’s episode 9, titled "First Blood," is scheduled to air on January 26, 2017 on The CW. It was directed by Robert Singer and written by Andrew Dabb. It will be followed by episode 10, titled "Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets," scheduled for February 2.
