‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Officially Wraps Filming; Will Byers Takes Central Role, May Become Main Villain?

‘Stranger Things’ season 2 has officially wrapped filming ahead of the season premiere on October 2017. Noah Schnapp’s Will Byers is set to take on a central role and it was speculated that he may become the main villain of the season.

According to /Film, the highly-anticipated second season of Netflix’s science-fiction and horror web television series has officially wrapped production ahead of the scheduled release on October 31, 2017. Season 2 is set a year after the terrifying events of the first, and will follow the characters as they attempt to return to their normal lives.

The upcoming season is set to feature the return of the show’s core characters including David Harbour’s Jim, Winona Ryder’s Joyce, Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven, Finn Wolfhard’s Mike, Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin, Noah Schnapp’s Will, Natalia Dyer’s Nancy, Charlie Heaton’s Jonathan, and Caleb McLaughlin’s Lucas. Newcomers to the cast include Sean Astin’s Bob Newby, Paul Reiser’s Owens, Dacre Montgomery’s Billy, and Sadie Sink’s Max.

During an interview with Deadline, Harbour talked about what to expect for his character Police Chief Jim Hopper in the new season. He revealed, “I think that breath he takes where he saves the child at the end is like the first breath he’s felt in a long time. He breathes again, as Will wakes up. So you’re right, this guy’s OK.”

He continued, “I think the journey, then, has to be something different in Season 2. And it is very different. You get to peel the onion back more and more as the seasons go on, and learn what these people are made of.”

The 42-year old actor also likened season two to strawberry ice cream as opposed to season 1, which was vanilla ice cream. He explained, “Some people are going to like strawberry and some people are going to like vanilla better. But you can’t try to recreate vanilla. We’re going to take a lot of risks. I think people are going to be pissed off by things. I think they are going to be elated and excited about things. It’s all further in terms of going on this journey.”

Meanwhile, Schnapp’s Will Byers is set to take on a central role in the upcoming season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer and director Shawn Levy teased that Will’s main role will excite many fans of the series. He said, “Will Byers is very much at the center of Season Two. Noah steps up in the most staggering way.”

Schnapp also admitted that he thinks Will will turn into a villain in the new season. He said, "If he's coughing up these baby Demogorgons, or eggs, or something, maybe he's incubating or holding these eggs inside of him and he's trying to fight his good side against his bad side in the next season. That would be cool to see, to see him become evil."

‘Stranger Things’ season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on October 31, 2017.
