“Red Dead Redemption 2” is supposed to be another home run for Rockstar when it is released in a few days. Unfortunately for the company, it is currently battling several issues from multiple sides. One is coming from women accusing the company of not empowering its female characters enough. Another is courtesy of former employees who are alluding to problems involving extreme overtime.

As Comicbook.com notes, Rockstar has been facing criticisms from various women’s groups for years due to how its games have depicted their female characters. Anyone who has played any of these titles will not be surprised over the vitriol that these organizations have displayed. It would seem that this anger still extends to “Red Dead Redemption 2.”

In an effort to explain why the female characters in “Red Dead Redemption 2” are the way they are, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser spoke to Vulture recently. He assures readers that women will be empowered in this open-world western video game and will feature diverse characters of the feminine persuasion.

He cited the character Lillian Powell who he describes as “almost like a Dorothy Parker character.” He also talked about how some of the other women in “Red Dead Redemption 2” are just as varied as the men.

"There are also ones who are weak and ones who are weak and become strong and ones who think they’re strong but are not. And that goes for men, too," Houser said.

It’s not just women’s groups that are taking issue with the company over “Red Dead Redemption 2” either. A recent post over at Reddit includes details with regards to the accusations leveled at Rockstar on the matter of extreme overtimes. The poster is a verified employee of the company and was given permission to talk about the issue by breaking down work hours and the like.
