Global warming remains one of the most concerning problems faced by people. And now, Australia is taking quite the beating from this calamity as the country is currently suffering from a drought that’s turning crops into dust. Donation funds have been set up for farmers affected, and Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are among who have helped raise money.
The celebrity couple announced they were donating $100,000 to the Farm Aid Telethon and urged others to do the same, The Daily Mail reported. Nicole Kidman is Australian herself and while she was born in Hawaii, the award-winning actress spent her childhood in Australia where she attended school. As such, Keith Urban’s wife wants to help with the efforts of aiding the farmers whose crops and farms have been affected by the calamity.
Despite Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban being buffeted by divorce rumors, the two aren’t paying attention to the false narratives published by tabloids. Instead, they’re focusing their attention on what really matters, using their influence as celebrities to help bring attention to the drought currently crippling Australia.
Keith Urban said that he would have flown to the country to personally help with the effort but as he’s currently on his Graffiti U tour, that is extremely difficult to accomplish. Instead, he and Nicole Kidman opted to donate a considerable sum in order for farmers to get back on their feet. Some of these farms are reportedly spending 10,000 Australian dollars per truckload of hay just to feed their animals as the heat is preventing crops to flourish.
The calamity is so severe in the country that emus and kangaroos are flocking to settlements and mining towns in search of food and water. BBC reported that five emus have already been hit by cars this week alone as the flightless birds are wandering in the middle of the road trying to find water supply in the area. Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s donation will surely be a big boost to help with the drought, which is causing the driest season seen in the country in half a century.
