Two separate survey showed that Germany's popular leader, Chancellor Angela Merkel's popularity is in decline that is due to her handling of European Refugee crisis.
Initially Ms. Merkel extended generous welcome to migrants from war torn Middle East, Africa and Asia, which even were praised, however as crisis intensified with thousands pouring into European shore and all wants to head to Germany led to massive break down of cooperation among European members.
Many European countries like Greece, Croatia, and Hungary didn't even have the infrastructure to handle such many people, which led to border controls, firing of rubber bullets, water cannons and Serbia issuing ultimatums to Croatia for letting refugees in. Some 800,000 people are set to arrive in Germany this year. Even German authorities are struggling to cope up with this many migrants.
Countries across EU are calling for ease of budget rules to cope up with rising cost of this influx. Moreover European countries and the people are cautious as most of the migrants are Muslims, which stands in contrast with Europe's Christian culture.
A survey by Der Spiegel, shows that Ms. Merkel's popularity has not only declined by 5 points to 63%, for the first time a leading member of her Junior coalition partner, foreign Minister Frank-Walter Stein Meier has higher rating of 67% and popularity of her Bavarian ally Horst seehofer's rating rose by 6 points to 44%. Both criticized her policy to let the migrants in.
Poll also shows 43% of German people clearly disagrees with Chancellor's policy.
Merkel could be in trouble in her bid to be Chancellor for fourth time in 2017, if she mishandles the situation.
