AMD Targets Nvidia, Intel with New AI Chips for Gaming and Business PCs

AMD debuts Ryzen PRO 8040 Series AI chips, poised to compete with Nvidia and Intel for dominance in PCs.

AMD, or Advanced Micro Devices, announced the debut of its artificial intelligence(AI) chip designed for desktops and laptops. The chip is reportedly specially made for business and gaming.

With the introduction of its newest AI Chip, AMD is looking to compete with Nvidia and Intel, which are currently leading in the field. News18 reported that AMD’s newly unveiled chips are expected to be integrated into Lenovo and HP devices in the second quarter of this year.

The Ryzen PRO 8040 Series

AMD’s newest AI chips are named the Ryzen PRO 8040 Series. When used in a desktop or laptop system, these chips will be capable of running large language models (LLM) and apps powered by artificial intelligence technology directly on the PC unit instead of the cloud.

Moreover, these AI chip series were specially built for business laptops and mobile gaming PCs. They are currently the most advanced x86 processors created for these devices.

AMD also released the Ryzen PRO 8000 Series for desktops. It is the first AI-enabled processor for business users. One of their good features is excellent performance, even if power consumption is low.

Competition with Nvidia and Intel

AMD debuted a series of semiconductors for AI-enabled business PCs to broaden its market share in the AI PC industry. It will compete with Nvidia, Intel, and other leading chipmakers to achieve the goal of leading the chip sector.

“AMD delivers the broadest portfolio of AI technologies to address the needs of the modern business. As we continue to expand our AI PC leadership, we are bringing more power and efficiency to a wide array of desktops and mobile PCs,” AMD’s senior vice president and general manager of the computing and graphics group, Jack Huynh, said in a press release. “Our latest PRO series processors set a new standard for premium computing experiences and help businesses deploy AI capabilities across their PCs with leadership performance and security.”
