Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish Universal Music Label Signs New Deal With TikTok, Ending Dispute

Universal Music and TikTok resolved their disagreements and renewed their partnership.

Universal Music Group signed a new licensing deal with TikTok a few months after withdrawing its artists’ music catalog from the platform. The companies were able to settle their music royalty disagreements and AI-related issues and agreed to work together again.

This means that the music of Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Drake, Alicia Keys, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, and more are returning to the TikTok platform for fans and app users to enjoy. As per CNBC, Universal Music officially revealed its new pact with the ByteDance-owned short video-sharing company on Thursday, May 2.

Agreed Terms Between Universal Music and TikTok

UMG and TikTok agreed to key changes, including offering better remuneration for singers and songwriters. They will also offer promotional opportunities for their recordings and launch protections against generative AI. The companies also vowed to remove “fake artist” AI songs from the platform.

The joint agreement surely starts a new era of strategic collaboration. The partners promised to provide the necessary support to help UMG’s artists and songwriters achieve their full potential in the business.
