The so-called iPhone X Mini has been in smartphone fans’ radar for a couple of years now. But, unfortunately, it does not seem like Apple will push through with this project.

There were rumors in 2018 that Apple is planning to release a new, smaller device that sports the same edge-to-edge display of the iPhone X that explains the popularity of the “iPhone X Mini.” One of the original sources of these rumors was the phone case maker Olixar. The company even shared CAD images showing the schematics of the supposed iPhone X Mini.

Reports note that Olixar has had quite a good track record in issuing information leaks on upcoming smartphones. The phone accessory company also seemed very confident of the information they had that they even started the production of iPhone X Mini cases.

The rumored iPhone X Mini was expected to be presented at Apple’s 2018 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). But, obviously, those claims did not pan out. And, a few months later, Olixar reportedly confirmed that Apple has scrapped their plans for the iPhone X Mini so they also needed to stop the production of iPhone cases for the device.

The same source claimed that Apple abandoned the idea of having a smaller iPhone X Mini to focus on three new iPhones in 2018 including a variant with a much larger screen than the original iPhone X. To be fair with Olixar, its follow-up information actually checked out in September 2018 when Apple unveiled the iPhone XS Max with a 6.5-inch display.

From this point on, it is not clear whether Apple will revisit the supposed iPhone X Mini project. However, it is important to note that Apple CEO Tim Cook earlier implied that the company does not want their hardware products to be labeled “just for the rich” and added they are looking to cater to the “prepaid market” – or territories where consumers typically do not rely on telecom financing plans to purchase new smartphones.
