Research Associate, Electrical Energy and Power Systems, University of Manchester
I am a Research Associate at the University of Manchester working on smart urban energy systems in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. My interests cover technical, economic and social aspects of modelling and assessment of smart districts and smart energy systems more generally. Key themes within my work are appreciation of the ‘whole system’, including all energy vectors, e.g., electricity, heat, gas etc. I also consider the integration of smart districts with the wider energy system, which is crucial as it is the flexibility requirements (to integrate renewables, reduce emissions, avoid network enhancement and maintain reliable grid operation) which drive demand for flexibility from the demand-side.
With cheap solar and wind power, is it time to rethink 'energy efficiency'?

The need to cut emissions from the energy sector has motivated the use of hydro, solar and wind power, and the development of more efficient buildings that consume less energy. And these solutions have indeed slightly...
