‘Supergirl’ Spoilers: Superman To Appear Next Season?

Melissa Benoist.Red Carpet Report on Mingle Media TV from Culver City, USA/Wikipedia

“Supergirl” is the show about the Man of Steel’s lesser-known cousin, and while the show has done a decent job introducing the female kryptonian to the larger public consciousness, fans are still clamoring for Superman to make an appearance. According to Christian Post, a recent photo of Melissa Benoist and Brandon Routh added wood to the fire of speculations that viewers might finally see Superman himself next season.

For those who don’t know, Routh played the titular superhero in 2006’s “Superman Returns,” which was not that well-received. Henry Caville has since replaced him in the minds of modern fans thanks to “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” but there are still those who remembered Routh’s portrayal. Unfortunately, the transference of “Supergirl” from ABC to The CW removes the actor from consideration.

Routh is playing Ray “Atom” Palmer in “Legends Of Tomorrow,” which is also in The CW. He couldn’t very well play two characters in the same universe.

“Smallville” Clark Kent actor Tom Welling was considered too, but there hasn’t been any confirmation if he has agreed. As things stand therefore, it looks like fans won’t be seeing Superman in “Supergirl.”

Another character that is at risk of not appearing on the show’s second season is Cat Grant. Calista Flockhart who plays Cat lives in Los Angeles and according to Cinema Blend, getting the actress to travel all the way to Vancouver to shoot is going to be challenging.

Cat’s presence in the show is considered essential because she keeps “Supergirl” from entering teeth-melting sweetness territory. Her usual quips containing real-world truths are a great counterweight against Kara’s overwhelmingly optimistic attitude. As such, losing her would put the show at risk of becoming much too peppy for the average, modern superhero viewer.

The Season 2 premiere of “Supergirl” has not been announced by The CW as of yet.
