Rumors about Samsung's new smartwatches, specifically the Samsung Galaxy Watch for 2018, have been flooding the internet for the past two months. Yet, there still haven't been concrete announcements from Samsung regarding the existence and potential release dates of these products that so many smartwatch aficionados are excited about.

While an official announcement may not be out for these new brand of smartwatches from Samsung, a trail of evidence can potentially corroborate some of the more exciting things about this upcoming smartwatches.

Patents have been filed for two Galaxy-brand smartwatch products, namely the Samsung Galaxy Watch, and the Samsung Galaxy Fit. Aside from this, a logo for the Galaxy brand was spotted being filed through the South Korean Intellectual Property Office. This is a massive move that makes it seem like Samsung is ready to let go of its Gear brand of smartwatches.

Another, more speculative topic about the new Samsung Galaxy Watches in 2018 would be the move from using Samsung's proprietary OS to Google's Wear OS. Known Chinese leaker Ice Universe has tweeted about the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy Watch and how it will come based on Android Wear, which is now called Google Wear OS.

This leak from Ice Universe comes after the false alarm from Evan Blass, who initially spotted Samsung employees sporting smartwatches running Wear OS rather than Tizen.

While an update to Blass's tweet mentions that the Wear OS watches the employees had were one-offs made by Google for Samsung's employees, which specific OS the new Galaxy watches will be using is still up in the air.

If the rumors are true, this is a breakaway move that could mean Samsung is now more interested in focusing on its products' hardware with this Samsung Galaxy Watch 2018 revamp rather than having to support its own in-house operating system. Samsung usually uses Tizen for its smartwatch OS. Aside from the Gear Live, which used Android Wear for its OS back in in 2014, the Gear Sport and Gear S3 have been pretty consistent with Samsung's use of the proprietary Tizen OS.
