“Mindhunter” season 3 is the next thing that fans of the drama are waiting for. The last season concluded six months ago, but unlike most hit programs’ that already completed a season, Netflix did not announce a follow-up for a third installment.

Fans continue to wait for any update, but they got bad news instead when the streaming provider revealed that it just terminated the cast members’ contracts. The termination took place last month, and apparently, there will be no renewal announcement for “Mindhunter” season 3 any time soon.

Lead cast’s terminated contracts

It was confirmed that Netflix scrapped the contracts of “Mindhunter” season 3 main lead stars. Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv have all been officially released from the show, but although this is the case, Groff said that they are ready to return if the producers will call them back to the set any time.

“You know that he and I would be so down,” Groff told Collider. “We’re ready. We’re ready. Whenever the call comes, we’re ready to jump.”

McCallany is also interested in doing “Mindhunter” season 3 again if they will be given a chance again. The cast believes that they can return as there are more stories to tell.

Will the drama still return?

As per Variety, “Mindhunter” season 3 could still be ordered back since Netflix only put it on hold for now. While it will not be in production for a time, the psychological-crime drama may still return, although there’s also a chance that it will be totally scrapped.

In another report, it was shared that the main reason for the discontinuation of the show is the “Mindhunter” season 3 executive producer, David Fincher’s busy schedule. He is set to debut as a director for another Netflix program called “Mank.” Still, in the future, he may work on the third season of “Mindhunter.”

“David is focused on directing his first Netflix film ‘Mank’ and on producing the second season of ‘Love, Death and Robots,’” a rep from Netflix told Entertainment Weekly. “He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”
