‘Food Wars’ Season 4: Is the Number of Available Manga Chapters Affecting the Production of Anime Series?

“Food Wars” season 4 is possibly on every anime fan’s list of must-see series even though it has not been announced yet. On a good note, there are several indications that the fourth anime installment will likely happen. The question, however, is when will it be released.

The third season ended covering the events of chapter 217 or “After the 1st Bout” of the Promotion Exams arc. Considering how the story ended there, “Food Wars” season 4 will unlikely skip anything since the next chapter is actually titled “2nd Bout.”

As of this writing, chapter 303 is the latest available manga installment. This means that, currently, there are only 86 chapters waiting to be produced into anime. That might not be enough for J. C. Staff to produce a two-cour “Food Wars” season 4 or with up to 24 episodes this year.

Monsters & Critics suggested last June that if the release of “Food Wars” season 4 will be pushed in 2019 fans should expect a one-cour installment. This is still true today considering the mentioned number of manga chapters untouched by the anime series.

In this case, the available manga chapters might not necessarily be a roadblock in the production of “Food Wars” season 4. Since the first season was released, a new installment premiered every year. This increases the possibility for “Food Wars” season 4 to arrive in 2019.

However, fans can expect the studio to pull the same strategy in releasing episodes of the Third Plate installment. It can be recalled that its first half with 12 episodes came out in October 2017 through December 2017. The second cour — episodes 13 to 24 — were dropped in April 2018 to June 2018. Fans can expect the first episodes of “Food Wars” season 4 to continue the story of the ongoing Régiment de Cuisine between the Rebels and Central.
