Cinnamon, the spice that is made from the inner bark of cinnamon trees, has medicinal properties that have been prized for thousands of years already. Yes, dating back to as far as ancient Egypt.

One of the cinnamon's properties is lowering the blood sugar, otherwise known as blood glucose, thus it may be very beneficial for those with type 2 diabetes to add cinnamon to their diet. They can perhaps replace sugar with cinnamon powder.

A person will suffer from diabetes, a chronic medical condition, if there is a buildup of blood glucose in the bloodstream.

In a normal situation, your glucose which comes mainly from the food you eat and which is your source of energy, is regulated by insulin, a hormone produced by your pancreas. The insulin basically helps your glucose get into your cells to be used for energy.

One of the most common types of diabetes is the type 2 diabetes. It is when your cells are not able to respond to insulin well, thus the buildup of glucose in your bloodstream. If not corrected, your body may no longer be able to produce enough insulin.

And, this is why cinnamon is very beneficial to those who have type 2 diabetes because it can help in lowering the glucose in your bloodstream.

Not only can cinnamon lessen the amount of glucose that enters in your bloodstream but it also has a compound that can mimic insulin and act on your cells.

Cinnamon can also improve your sensitivity to insulin thus it can reduce your being resistant to insulin which is what happens when you have type 2 diabetes.

Aside from that, cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties and it can also cut the risk of you having a heart disease.
