Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty in the 70th minute and paved the way for Manchester United to secure a 2-0 win against Leicester City on the last day of the English Premier League.

The win, which was sealed by a late Jesse Lingard goal, also helped the United secure a spot in the Champions League 2020/2021 as they finished at the third spot of the English Premier League.

It was the 14th penalty awarded to United this season, an all-time record for the Premier League.

Fans of rival teams started tweeting about the league's new record and made "Penchester United" trend on social media.

Many have been critical of the Portuguese player calling him out for his dives, which had earned him penalties.

Of the recent penalty conversion that Fernandes made, one netizen said that the player cannot score without a penalty and that Penchester United cannot think of any other way of winning.

It cannot, however, be denied that Bruno Fernandes has always performed well in converting penalties, especially during critical matches.

Also securing a Champions League spot alongside United was Chelsea, who inflicted a 2-0 loss on the Wolves.

It was Chelsea's win that somehow put the pressure on Leicester as it meant that they had to beat United to be able to secure a spot in the Champions League 2020-2021.

Just one point separated United, Chelsea, and Leicester, and the wins allowed the first two teams to finish with 66 points and Leicester with 62 points.

United got the third spot in the league by virtue of its goal difference while Leicester settled for the fourth spot.

Manchester United has been doing well ever since the Premier League resumed play last June. They weren't even in the top four and were even 11 points behind Leicester early in January.

Manchester United alum Paul Scholes, however, don't see qualifying for the Champions League as an achievement for his old team. He did acknowledge that it was progress for his old club.

The turnaround has been credited to the arrival of Bruno Fernandes, who joined the United also last January. With Fernandes, Manchester United had not lost a Premier League match.
